My border collie, Mylo

about me…

Hello! I'm Kate, the proud owner and driving force behind 101 K9 - Training & Behavior Services. My credentials speak to my dedication: I am a Certified Dog Trainer certified by The Association of Professional Dog Trainers, a PSI Certified Pet Sitter, and equipped with Red Cross certification in Cat & Dog First Aid. I also proudly serve as an AKC Approved CGC Evaluator administering the CGC, AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy and AKC Community Canine programs. My ethos is anchored in LIMA standards (least intrusive, minimally aversive), guided by Fear Free® practices, and informed by SAFER® guidelines.

My engagement in the dog world extends significantly into both the therapy dog and service dog communities, with a successful track record of training numerous service dogs that have made a profound impact on their owners' lives, assisting them through various disabilities. I also find immense gratification in conducting therapy dog visits, a meaningful endeavor that sees my border collie partner, Mylo, participating passionately within the framework of the esteemed Bright and Beautiful Therapy Dogs program.

Expanding my sphere of influence, I'm an active member of several organizations including our local AKC club, and the Border Collie Society of America (BCSA). Currently, I'm actively involved in conformation dog shows and AKC competition obedience training alongside my beloved canine companion. Additionally, I practice dog photography as a cherished hobby.

I've meticulously crafted my expertise through a multitude of enriching avenues, embarking on educational journeys with revered institutions like Karen Pryor Academy, Leerburg, American Kennel Club College, and Dr. Ian Dunbar's Academy. My unyielding pursuit of knowledge is ceaselessly fueled by an insatiable curiosity, propelling me to continuously seek out and immerse myself in various esteemed schools and programs across the spectrum of canine training and behavior.

My approach embraces a spectrum of methodologies, adapted to the dog's breed, temperament, and the family's preferences. Recognizing the paramount importance of continuous learning, I'm dedicated to staying at the forefront of evolving techniques, medical insights, and physical advancements.

I hold a steadfast conviction that effective dog training encompasses the education of both owners and their canine companions. My approach centers around cultivating robust understanding on both sides of the equation. In every facet of training, whether in obedience or behavior modification, I emphasize the paramount significance of fostering a thriving and harmonious bond between the dog and their owner. This core principle underpins every aspect of my training methodology, recognizing that a solid foundation of trust and respect is indispensable—underscoring that this relationship is mutually earned. The synergy between owner and dog is, after all, the cornerstone of successful training. No amount of toys or treats can make up for a lack of trust and respect, which goes both ways.
